COUGAR CANYON is the third novel in the Buck Logan Cougar series. Like the other two novels most of the incidents that occur have already happened.
There were three incidents that occurred in COUGAR HUNT that had not happened yet when I wrote the book, but I felt sure that they would in the future.
Two of those things happened in one, two day incident in southern California. One, a cougar attack would happen in or immediately adjacent to a very populated area. Two, a cougar would attack and kill a human, and then do it, or attempt to do it again. In this case it happened the very next day. Usually when a cougar attacks a human it is tracked down and killed to prevent it from continuing this behavior. This also keeps the cougar from passing along this behavior to offspring.
The third prediction was that the attack scenerio would change. On January 27, 2007 Jim Hamm, age 70, was attacked while hiking in northern California. His wife saved his life by using a log to hit it in the head repeatedly until it let go and then disappeared. This was the first ever documented cougar attack on an adult human in the presence of another adult human.
Another interesting fact I uncovered in 2005 was that there has never been a documented cougar attack on a human during the hours of darkness. There may be one exception, Jimmy Fehlhaber, age 13, near Lake Chelan, Washington who was killed in 1924. The information is not clear, but it appears that this incident may have happened during the hours of darkness.
